How many eggs does it cost to play a bird in Wingspan?
It depends on the column. The first space in a habitat costs no eggs, the 2nd and 3rd cost 1 egg, and the 4th and 5th cost 2 eggs. You can take the eggs from any of your birds.
The rule:
In Wingspan, a bird’s egg cost depends on its column: column 1 costs no eggs, columns 2 and 3 cost 1 egg, and columns 4 and 5 cost 2 eggs, taken from any birds on your mat.
| Column | Egg cost |
|---|---|
| 1 | None |
| 2 or 3 | 1 egg |
| 4 or 5 | 2 eggs |
Discard the eggs from any birds on your mat back to the supply, then pay the food cost. Each habitat holds at most 5 birds, and a bird always goes in the leftmost open space of its row.
Example:
Mia has 3 birds in her wetland and wants to play a 4th there. She discards 2 eggs, one from a forest bird and one from a grassland bird, then pays the bird's food cost.
Why players argue about it:
Players think the eggs must come from the same habitat or the same bird. They can come from any birds on your mat.
