What happens if you lay more eggs than your birds can hold in Wingspan?

Extras lostShort answer

The extra eggs are lost. Every bird has an egg limit shown under its points, and a bird can never hold more than that. If your birds are full, any eggs beyond their space don't get laid.

The rule:

In Wingspan, extra eggs your birds can’t hold are lost: each bird has an egg limit shown under its points that can never be exceeded, so any eggs beyond your birds’ total space don’t get laid.

When you lay eggs, put them on any birds on your mat, in any combination, including all on one bird, as long as each bird stays within its egg limit.

  • Egg limit: the egg icons under the bird’s points. It can never be exceeded.
  • No space: eggs beyond your birds’ total space are lost.
  • Bonus egg: some slots let you pay at most 1 food to lay 1 extra egg.

Each egg on a bird is worth 1 point at the end of the game, and eggs are also spent to play birds in columns 2 to 5.

Example:

Ana takes the lay-eggs action and may lay 4 eggs, but her birds only have room for 2. She lays 2, and the other 2 are lost.

Why players argue about it:

Players try to stack extra eggs on a bird or save them on the mat for later. Eggs only exist on birds with open space.
