How do ties work on end-of-round goals in Wingspan?
On the green side, tied players add up the points for all the places they occupy, divide equally and round down. Those lower places aren't awarded. The split is done at game end. You need at least 1 of the item to score.
The rule:
In Wingspan, players tied on a green-side end-of-round goal add up the points for all the places they span, split them equally and round down, and the lower places they cover aren’t awarded. You need at least 1 of the item to score.
Green side (default): players are ranked on the goal’s item.
- You need at least 1 of the item to score.
- Ties: put all tied players’ cubes on the tied place and skip the next place(s). At game end, add the points of the places they span, divide by the number of tied players, and round down.
- 4th and 5th place score 0, but you still place a cube.
Blue side (simpler): score 1 point per item, up to the maximum shown. No ranking, so no ties.
Marking the goal uses one of your action cubes, which is why you get 1 fewer turn each round.
Example:
A round's goal pays 6, 3 and 2 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Ana and Ben tie for 1st. They each get 4 points (6 + 3 = 9, halved and rounded down). Nobody gets 2nd place, and the next player takes 3rd.
Why players argue about it:
Groups give both tied players full 1st-place points, or still award 2nd place. The rule merges the tied places and splits them.
