Can you stack Draw Two or Wild Draw 4 cards in UNO?
No. When a Draw Two or Wild Draw 4 is played on you, you draw the cards and lose your turn, so there's no chance to answer with a draw card of your own. Stacking is a popular house rule, not part of the official rules.
The rule:
No, the official UNO rules don’t allow stacking Draw Two or Wild Draw 4 cards: the player hit by one draws the cards and loses their turn, so they can’t answer with a draw card of their own. Stacking is a house rule.
What the official rules say happens:
- Draw Two: the next player draws 2 cards and misses their turn.
- Wild Draw 4: the next player draws 4 cards and loses their turn, and you pick the color.
Because the next player’s turn is used up by drawing, they never get to play a card in response.
Where the confusion comes from: a Draw Two can be played on another Draw Two. That’s a normal match on your own turn, after the previous effect has been resolved, not a way to pass the penalty along.
Against a Wild Draw 4, the one response the rules do give you is a challenge, if you think it was played illegally.
If your group likes stacking, agree on it as a house rule before you start.
Example:
Mia plays a Draw Two. Kai is holding a Draw Two too, but he doesn't get a turn to play it: he draws 2 cards, his turn is skipped, and play moves to the next player.
Why players argue about it:
Stacking is one of the most common house rules, so many players learned it as the real rule. The sheet doesn't mention stacking, but because the next player draws and loses their turn, they get no chance to play a card in response.
