Do 7s and 0s swap hands in UNO?
Not in the official rules. Number cards, including 7s and 0s, are just numbers: they match by color or number and do nothing else. Swapping hands on a 7 or passing hands on a 0 is a popular house rule your group can agree on.
The rule:
The official UNO rules don’t cover swapping hands on 7s and 0s: they’re ordinary number cards with no special effect. Swapping hands on a 7 and passing hands on a 0 is a popular house rule your group can agree on before playing.
Official rules: 7s and 0s are ordinary number cards. They score face value (7 and 0 points) and have no special effect.
The house rule people play: a 7 lets you swap hands with a player of your choice; a 0 makes everyone pass their hand in the direction of play.
The official card that mixes hands: the Wild Shuffle Hands card collects every player’s hand, shuffles them together and deals them all back out, starting with the player to the left of whoever played it. The player who played it picks the next color.
Some UNO spin-off decks build hand-swapping into their own rules, so check the sheet that came with your deck.
Want 7-0 at your table? Agree on it as a house rule first. A customizable card only takes effect when it’s played, so it can’t turn every 7 and 0 into a swap, though it could carry a one-off “swap hands with anyone” rule.
Example:
Ana plays a yellow 0. Under the official rules nothing else happens: the next player plays a yellow card, a 0 or a Wild, or draws. No hands move unless your group agreed to the house rule before the game.
Why players argue about it:
The 7-0 rule is so widespread that many players are sure it's official. The only card in this deck that reshuffles hands is the Wild Shuffle Hands card.
