Who wins a tie in Azul?
The tied player with more complete horizontal rows on their wall wins. If they're still tied, they share the victory.
The rule:
In Azul, a tie on points goes to the tied player with more complete horizontal rows on their wall, and if they are still tied, the players share the victory.
- Most points wins, after the end-of-game bonuses are added.
- Tied? The player with more complete horizontal rows wins.
- Still tied? The victory is shared.
Complete columns and finished colors don’t break ties. They only count through the points they already added.
Tip: in a close game, finishing one more horizontal row is worth more than its 2-point bonus, because it can also decide a tie. When the game is about to end, count your opponents’ finished rows.
Example:
Mia and Kai both finish on 61 points after bonuses. Mia completed 2 horizontal rows and Kai completed 1, so Mia wins.
Why players argue about it:
Groups invent their own tie-breakers, like fewest floor tiles or most bonuses. The rulebook has just one: complete horizontal rows.
