When does Azul end?
After the wall-tiling phase of the round in which at least one player completes a horizontal row of 5 tiles on their wall. Everyone finishes that wall-tiling phase, including floor penalties, then adds the end-of-game bonuses.
The rule:
Azul ends once someone completes a horizontal row of 5 tiles on their wall: all players finish that round’s wall-tiling, including floor penalties, then add the end-of-game bonuses, and no new round is prepared.
Trigger: at least one player completes a full horizontal row of 5 tiles on their wall during wall-tiling.
What happens: finish that wall-tiling phase for everyone, including floor penalties. Don’t prepare another round.
End-of-game bonuses:
| Goal | Bonus |
|---|---|
| Each complete horizontal row | +2 points |
| Each complete vertical column | +7 points |
| Each color with all 5 tiles on your wall | +10 points |
Example:
During wall-tiling, Ana completes the second row of her wall. Everyone finishes wall-tiling and floor penalties as usual. Then the game ends, and the bonuses are added before comparing scores.
Why players argue about it:
Some groups stop the moment a row is filled, others play one more round. The rule sits in between: finish that wall-tiling phase, then stop.
