Who wins a tie in Splendor?
The tied player who bought the fewest Development cards wins. If they're still tied, they share the victory.
The rule:
In Splendor, a tie for the most Prestige points goes to the tied player who purchased the fewest Development cards. If they’re still tied after that, the victory is shared.
- Most Prestige points wins.
- Tied? The tied player who purchased the fewest Development cards wins.
- Still tied? The victory is shared.
The rule counts cards you purchased, so reserved cards still in your hand don’t count.
Why it matters: the tie-breaker rewards efficiency. If two players are neck and neck, the one who got there with fewer, higher-value cards wins. Keep an eye on your card count in a close race, especially once someone is near 15.
Example:
Kai and Mia both finish with 17 points. Kai bought 14 Development cards and Mia bought 12, so Mia wins.
Why players argue about it:
Players often guess the tie-breaker is most cards or most nobles. It's the opposite: reaching the score with fewer cards wins.
